Empowerment through education

"Our volunteer administration ensures nearly 95% of funds raised go directly to supporting disadvantaged children in regional Nepal."

FHC Trivia night – and the brianiacs are…

the winners of the FHC trivia night
Congratulations to ‘Hats & Waffles’ for brainstorming their way to the winners podium at our Trivia Night last 27 September.

The trivia night, organised by Rita Zappulla from Rotary Cairns Sunrise, was a huge success with nearly 200 people attending the event. Over $7,000 was raised for FHC from ticket sales, raffles and silent auctions.

The funds raised will go towards giving more disadvantaged kids in regional Nepal access to an education, and to furthering our aims to expand the Batase school’s curriculum to include Years 11 and 12. We aim to develop the school into an educational centre for the region so aspiring students aren’t required to travel away to Kathmandu or Melamchi to complete their secondary school studies.

An important part of the money raised came from the raffles and silent auctions. So many local businesses donated prizes we would like to thank Skyrail, Paronella Park, Dundees Restaurant, Mamu Tropical Skywalk, DoubleTree by Hilton, AKT Hair Trendz, GoBowling, Coles supermarket, author Kirsty Nancarrow, Som and Susan’s shop ‘Himalayan Dreams’ at The Pier, A1 Mechanical, Mantra Esplanade, and City Terraces Holiday Apartments.

And a huge thank you to Rita and the Rotary Cairns Sunrise volunteers for organising a successful night, and to Brothers Leagues Club on Anderson street for providing the venue.
