Women-only trek to Annapurna Base Camp

In November, an all-women’s group with participants from Australia trekked to the spectacular Annapurna Base Camp under the guidance of ex FHC hostel students.
Fiona Sewell, Secretary of FHC, was one of those women.

She writes: “Greetings from Annapurna Base Camp – 4,130 metres. It’s hard to describe the feeling of being surrounded by the majestic giants of the Himalayas. Puts us in our place. There’s something special about doing it with a group of incredible women; the camaraderie, growing friendships, sharing of stories. We couldn’t have made it without our queens of the mountain – Bimmaya Tamang and Lhak Futee Sherpa, and our sweet, unflappable trek leader Anil Tamang.

This was a trek with purpose and meaning. Not just the physical challenge but being part of something much bigger. Most of our guides and porters are from Batase and have been sponsored through FHC to finish school and pursue future studies. When you trek with Take on Nepal you’re helping these young women and men gain financial independence, support their families and to dream big about their futures.

Many of the women in our beautiful group were from Cairns, but we also had women join us from Perth, Gold Coast, Bagara, Townsville and Ireland. We were led and inspired by Susan Devitt – who along with life partner Som has created this incredible trekking company. Some of our group were lucky enough to spend time in Batase to see first hand the amazing work of FHC. This adventure has created lifelong memories and friendships.
We’re already talking about the next trek. Who’s in?”

This trek has been organised yearly over the past few years. Stay tuned for future opportunities, usually run around November each year.
